The liveaboards in Komodo National Park are not an exception as they take you to the best spots including the famous islands of Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and Flores<\/strong>. It is typical for you to be able to do 2-3 dives a day when on a liveaboard, giving you the change to explore sites that are usually too far for day dive trips.<\/p> <\/div>

It is no understatement when I say that <\/span>diving in the Komodo National Park<\/b><\/a> is a fantastic experience. Be prepared to see untouched coral, large pelagics, sharks, and a wide variety of other underwater life. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My experience diving there was unforgettable and is definitely something I highly recommend.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although there are some dive spots suitable for beginners, generally speaking, the dives here are a lot more challenging due to the currents. So having some experience under your belt is definitely recommended. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you can expect to see: manta rays, reef sharks, or even hammerhead and Grey sharks. I honestly felt like I was in a giant aquarium, slightly overwhelmed by the number of things to see around me (not a bad problem to have when diving!). <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re also likely to encounter a wide variety of fish from tuna, barracudas, turtles, to giant trevally. If you\u2019re into macro photography, you can find loads of rare nudibranchs and pygmy seahorses.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most liveaboards depart from Labuan Bajo and will allow you to dock in the islands where you can see the famed Komodo dragons.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Best Time to Go Diving in Komodo<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Deciding when to go is probably one of the most important parts of choosing a liveaboard. You have to find one that suits your travel schedule. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make the most out of your diving holiday, make sure you go to Komodo during its best season which runs from March to October<\/strong>. Although some liveaboards operate all-year-round, the best visibility (30m!) is from November to January. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peak season happens between April and August. If you want to spot some manta rays, your best chances are December to February. That said, I was able to swim with over 15 manta rays during my visit in August. For spotting mola molas, the best month is August.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Komodo Islands is known for its strong currents, but that\u2019s also why the marine life here is so vibrant. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the liveaboard boat crews are experienced in reading the tides, and will carefully choose each dive site according to the weather and water conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the best things about being on a liveaboard is you have a one-up on all the other dive boats that do day trips. You can either do early morning dives or late afternoon dives to avoid the crowd. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The islands of Komodo and Rinca act as a bottleneck between the Indian and Pacific Ocean, making the Komodo National Park a rollercoaster of currents and waves. Always trust your divemaster and listen when they advise you on currents and water patterns.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Dive Sites in Komodo<\/b> Islands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. Cannibal Rock<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the best dive sites for macro diving and spotting unique creatures swimming around. While diving Cannibal Rock, you\u2019re likely to run into octopus, pygmy seahorses, and a wide array of coral.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cannibal Rock is a great site for a night dive and attracts divers from across the world because of its unique environment.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

2. Manta Alley<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you want to see manta rays, this is the place to be! Peak season for mantas is September to January, and divers have reported seeing up to 20 mantas on a single dive. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if you aren\u2019t visiting during these months, it\u2019s still likely you\u2019ll run into one while you\u2019re diving in Manta Alley. There are also reef sharks, triggerfish and other marine life for you to marvel at.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Batu Bolong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Batu Bolong is a world-famous dive site surrounding what looks like a small rock. However, beneath the surface it\u2019s a reef that reaches 70 meters down and is swarming with diverse marine life. It hasn\u2019t been fished because of the strong currents, making the reef an untouched paradise. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While diving Batu Bolong, you\u2019re bound to see whitetip sharks, coral and sponges, but what makes this site so special is the amount of fish. There are different species as far as the eye can see, all swimming in schools. It\u2019s truly a sight to behold.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Yellow Wall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Yellow Wall is true to its name, as there\u2019s an entire wall covered in bright yellow soft coral and sea cucumbers. The wall starts at 16 feet and stretches all the way down to 131 feet!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While sea cucumbers and coral are the main attractions at this site, there\u2019s also a plethora of marine life swimming around like turtles and different species of fish. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

How to Get to the Komodo Islands<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The two main departure points for the Komodo liveaboards are Labuan Bajo or Bali in Indonesia<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bali is an international hub with flights to Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) coming in from all over the world. If your liveaboard leaves directly from Flores Island, you can catch a flight from Bali to Komodo Labuan Bajo Airport, or look at <\/span>Lombok boat trips<\/b><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
